This month I was able to complete the #furiousfiction entry. That makes 11 months out of the 12. My resolution at the beginning of the year was to enter something every month of 2021. At this point, I have no doubt I will succeed. It was a great exercise to keep writing, no matter what else was going on, the first full weekend of each month I wrote something, even if that was all I wrote through the month.
My oldest son and his wife will be coming for a visit this Thanksgiving so I have begun decorating for the holidays a little early and for the first year since my husband died, (2018) I am enjoying the process. Christmas was my favorite holiday to decorate for when the kids were smaller. Now I am trying to get back in the mood.
Today I thought perhaps I might share my #furiousfiction entry from June. The following list needed to be included in this 500 words or less story.
THICK AS HONEY
SILENT AND STILL
GOLDEN GLOW
HEART-SHAPED
DELICATE PERFUME
SOFT AND DOUGHY
RAZOR-SHARP
The heart-shaped pendant Maryanne wore was passed down through several generations. It had a rose colored tone to it, while maintaining it’s golden glow. Just before her mother passed away, she sat silent and still by her side. The scent of her delicate perfume lingered.
The room's air felt thick as honey and seemed difficult to breathe in. Maryanne could not wait to be able to open the window, but knew that her mother would complain. Alice spoke her last words. They were razor-sharp and hurtful, yet, the love Maryanne felt for her mother lingered even after her death.
In fact, when she found out she was pregnant, the soft and doughy tummy she had, got held tight. Her words were clear… I shall name you Melody Alice, after your grandmother who cannot be here to see you grow into a beautiful young woman. If you should be a boy, then your name will be Alex Melvin, again in honor of your grandmother. She may not have liked me very much but she would have loved you for sure.
There are a few new reviews posted including this anthology. Check them out.
